I was thinking about resources that I would find helpful as a student artist and my instinct was to go to sites with contemporary artists and their works to use as inspiration. I found two that I like. The first is a blog called
Brown Paper Bag. They have an assortment of current working artists featured in their posts. The cool part is they have a "you might also like" section featuring artists that work in the same style.
The other site is
deviantART, which is a site for ar
tists to publish and sell their work. This site might be great for high school students especially, because the artists are often younger and working from the same ideas and inspirations they have.
Yea, DeviantArt is a great site for all of those students who love the fantasy/reality themes, as well. Which, let's face it, we all love but especially adolescents!
ReplyDeletemy students OBSESS over deviant art - I agree with both of your perspectives. Though the themes may be a bit trite at times I think that the idea of students contributing to a shared creative community has a lot of potential. I can't wait to check out this brown bag site (love the logo/screenshot above!)
